TROUBLESHOOTING LIQUID FILTRATION SYSTEMS (LA6)

ISSUE

Our troubleshooting services bring solutions to works that are experiencing operating issues or decreased performance of filtration systems. Such issues may include:

  • Insufficient flow
  • Cake moisture is too high
  • Filtrate clarity is inadequate
  • Frequent and rapid filter media clogging (short lifetime)
  • Changes in upstream operating conditions (particle size, temperature, new additive, new raw material, etc.)
  • Deterioration of cake washing
  • Cake unloading problems

TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGE

  • Investigate the multiple causes of operating issues or filtration equipment output decline
  • Target the most plausible cause (Pareto principle) and the most profitable intervention to sort through multiples causes

RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS

  • Use of proprietary audit models developed over 15 years of separation process troubleshooting and designing experience. These models will cover any and all plausible options and cases
  • Work sessions and interviews with sector personnel to make sure the process and issues are well defined, understood and documented
  • Characterization of the pulp or mixture to be filtered and identification of operating conditions
  • Sector visits and equipment inspections with the client to fill the audit questionnaire

RESULTS

Generally, analytical investigations of the filter media and a characterization of the different phases at work are recommended to bolster the analysis of the investigated problems. Afterwards, the completed audit report and an onsite presentation of the results will support the recommendations communicated therein. Alongside this document, STS provides a remediation plan with prioritized activities to act upon the issues experienced by the client.
