Mechanical Coalescer

Mechanical Coalescer

Mechanical Coalescer operates based on physical alteration or involvement of a droplet influenced by mechanical, or physical properties.

Mechanical Coalescer is a common type used in oil and gas industries worldwide. Coalescer cartridges are mechanical devices to filter solids and separate two immiscible liquids.

Mechanical Coalescer uses filters or baffles to make droplets coalesce. The most common uses are the filtration and separation of water from various types of hydrocarbons.

The free water droplets and solid contaminants in hydrocarbons are, in the vast majority of cases, no more than a haze of microscopic particles suspended in the fuel and invisible to the naked eye.

While coalescers by definition function as a separation tool for liquids, they are commonly used, and mistakenly referred to, as filters.
