A Chevron Mist Eliminator also known as vane demister operates on the principle of direct impact.
It consists of a series of parallel plates or vanes spaced at specified pitch to provide passage between the plates for gas to flow.
The plates are profiled (“W” or “VH”) with angles to provide sufficient change of direction for liquid droplets to impact, coalesce and drain from the surfaces of the plates.
In W type vane, the droplets impact and coalesce on the vanes as gas flow is around the vane profile. This vane type suits vertically upward flowing gas with high liquid load.
The VH type vanes are very efficient and are suitable for horizontal flows as H profiles provide pockets for liquid collection.
